The material covered in Strategic Financial Management will increase the student's knowledge of how to strategically manage financial resources to increase the intrinsic value of the organization. It will stress the theory and application of topics including, but not limited to capital budgeting, cash flow estimation, real options, capital structure, dividends and share repurchases, working capital management, budgeting, planning and forecasting, and lease management. This course is intended to be advanced financial management. Students with an undergraduate major or graduate degree in accounting may not include this course on their plan of study for the MBA degree. Prereq: BSAD 8060 or BSAD 8070 (prior to or concurrent). Upon completion of this course, a student should be able to use accounting information to make management decisions, understand how accounting rules inform those decisions, and consequently, how those decisions affect a company's financial reports. Emphasis is placed on the user of accounting information rather than the preparer. In this course, we will study practical uses of accounting information to address the problems and decisions managers face in business. Managers and administrators must be able to understand, analyze, and use accounting information to make operational and strategic business decisions. Students with an undergraduate major or a graduate degree in management information systems may not include this course in a plan of study for the MBA degree. Furthermore, the course will address emerging technologies and their current and potential application. Students will develop case studies of firms who have achieved this objective. Accordingly, the content of this course is focused on use of information technology for competitive advantage. The premise of this course is that today's managers must learn to use information technology to create competitive firms, manage global corporations and provide useful products and services to customers. Students not present at first class meeting, without prior notification to the instructor, may be administratively withdrawn from the course. Prereq: Math 1320 (for students who matriculated at or prior to Summer 2015) or Math 1360 or MATH 1370 or Math 1930 with a 'C'(2.0) or better and at least a 2.3 GPA. Topics include descriptive statistics, graphical and tabular methods of data presentation, probability, discrete and continuous distributions, hypothesis testing of means and proportions for single and multiple populations, and regression analysis. This will help you gain greater theoretical understanding, and also help you so that you can apply calculus more appropriately to varied problems. An accelerated course covering statistical methods used in business analysis. Math 4101 - Advanced Calculus: This course will help you really understand what you were doing in your earlier calculus courses. This is the second course in linear algebra, which follows up on the work in Math 3511. Many fields (computer science when it does graphics, engineering fields when you are modeling a process, economics when you are trying to measure a trend) needs linear algebra and matrices. Math 4511 - Linear Algebra: The simplest way to approximate things is often with lines and planes. In it, you cover symmetry groups of objects (useful in chemistry, as molecular symmetry determines many underlying properties), permutation groups (why do 8 perfect shuffles restore a deck of cards to its original state?), and other miscellaneous topics. Math 3512 - Abstract Algebra: In this class, you work very rigorously to understand the structure underlying modern algebra. In this class, you will actually prove this property and understand why it is true. You have probably heard that a number is divisible by 3 if and only if the sums of its digits is divisible by 3. In it, you will learn to think and reason logically and how to write rigorous mathematics arguments. Math 3721 - Discrete Mathematics: This course is a stepping stone to the higher level pure math classes.
